Particles

Behind the scenes

I've always been fond of the works John Hurrell made in the early part of last decade, painting directly onto street maps, using exposed roads to make various patterns and shapes.  Heading east from the gallery, on Gloucester Street, the exposed side of a building, clad in black polythene with various lengths of timber haphaszardly attached, reminded me of Hurrell's black-out efforts.  Interesting to note then the title of this work in the Chartwell Collection, Christchurch Particles 5

Just a little further up the road, and particles is indeed exactly what Christchurch is being reduced to.
